今日もパターンフレーズをやりましょう。イエイ！
In this one we’re going to go over the phrase “why don’t you”.
今回はwhy don’t youを使ったフレーズです。
So I think normally when we try to suggest something we would say
通常、何か提案する時に使う表現としては
let’s go to the party together or
パーティーに行こう！や
you can go to the party too
一緒にパーティーに行こうよなど言いいますが、
but if you want to give a little push to that invite
もしもっと強く勧めたい場合、
then we can say “why don’t you”.
そんな時に使えるのがwhy don’t youです。
Why don’t youのイメージ
So just to give you a better image of meaning of why don’t you.
why don’t youのイメージをもう少し言うと。
For example my father is from Kansai area
例えば、私の父は関西出身です。
So when he says “〜したらいいやないかい”
なので父が「〜したらいいやないかい」といったとき
It means like he’s suggesting something.
お父さんは、ただ提案をしているだけど、
It sounds a little bit strong but
ちょっときつく聞こえますが、でも
he’s not angry. He’s not mad.
お父さんは怒っているわけではないんです。イライラしているわけではなく、
He’s only suggesting like tiny bit aggressively.
ちょっと強めに提案しているだけなんです。
So the phrase why don’t you have a little bit similar image to that
Why don’t you を使ったフレーズはそんなイメージに近いです。
you’re suggesting pushing a little bit.
ちょっと気持ち強めに勧めている感じです。

なんやかんや、言い訳しちゃって
Then you might want to say this.
こう言いたくなるかもしれません。

a lot of native speakers use this phrase in everyday conversations.
ネイティブスピーカーは毎日の会話のなかでよく使っています。
