intro

Hi, it’s Risa. How’s it going everyone?
こんにちは、リサです。みなさんご機嫌いかがですか?

Hope all is well with you.
みなさんが元気で過ごしていることを願っています。

I’m feeling a little tired
私は少し疲れています。

because of this weather, man.
この天気のせいで。

I clearly know now I don’t do well with rain.
はっきりとわかりました。私は雨とはうまく付き合えないと言うことが。

Like when it rains I feel like it’s raining inside of my heart too and
雨が降っていると、私の心も雨が降っているみたいで

I don’t know like I just feel tired already so meh.
わからないけど、もう疲れちゃうんです。

But other than that I’m doing good.
でもそれ以外は私はバッチリです。

So anyways in this video, I wanna talk about “I think”.
それはいいとして、このビデオでは”I think”についてお話ししたいと思います。

Even in Japanese, when you’re speaking with someone
日本語でもそうですが、誰かと話すとき

and you want to make a comment.
コメントする時、

Depends on the situation or who you’re speaking to, you don’t wanna come to strong,
状況や誰と話しているかにもよりますが、強い言い方はしたくないですよね。

so you wanna sort of express like a little more gently
よりやさしく表現したいですよね。

So time’s like that, we can use “I think”.
そんなときは、”I think”が使えます。

So let’s go over how we can use it.
ではどうやって使うのかみていきましょう。

Let’s get this started.
はじめましょう。

言いたい事を柔らかくしてくれる”I think”のイメージ解説

OK. So today we’re going to practice phrases adding “I think” in the beginning.
今日は最初に”I think”を加えてフレーズ練習をしていきます。

So like I already said,
先ほども言ったように

When you add “I think” in beginning of the sentence
センテンスのはじめに”I think”をつけるとき

it makes your sentence sounds a little more gentle.
文章がすこしやわらかくなります。

For example you want to say
例えばこう言いたかったら

これは間違いです。
This is wrong.

So when you say “This is wrong”
“This is wrong”と言うと

it sounds a little strong
すこし強く聞こえます

like it sounds a little too harsh.
すこし厳しすぎるようにも聞こえます

But when you say it like this
ですが、もしこう言うと

これ間違ってると思います。
I think this is wrong.

See? It sounds a little more gentle, right?
どうですか?よりやさしく聞こえますよね?

So when you add “I think”, it’s kind of like
“I think”をつけると、、、

I think this is wrong. It’s just my opinion.
私は間違いだと思います。これは、私の考えですが。

Everyone else thinks differently.
みんな考え方は違いますから。

You know it’s just my opinion.
これはあくまで私の思いなので。

Because you’re not like boom making a statement
ズバッと直接的に言ってる訳ではないので

you’re not hurting someone’s feeling, but you’re still like expressing what you think.
誰かを傷つけることもないですし、ちゃんとあなたの考えを述べることもできます。

So how you use it is “I think” something something.
どう使うかというと、

I think 〜

And then this something you can just add your opinion.
そしてこの〜にあなたの考えを当てはめます。

Alright, so let’s practice in a chants together.
ではチャンツで練習していきましょう。

But let’s speak a little gently today.
そして今日は少し優しく話してみましょう。

“I think”を使ったフレーズ

それは、やめた方がいいと思うよ

Alright, first sentence.
最初のセンテンスです。

OK. Before we practice in a chants
チャンツで練習する前に

let’s compare how it sounds different with I think without I think.
I thinkが付いているのと付いていないので違いを比較してみましょう。

So without I think
I thinkがないと

それは、やめた方がいい
You should stop it.

With I think
I thinkがついていると

それは、やめた方がいいと思うよ
I think you should stop it.

Yeah? Yeah, it sounds gentle?
いかがでしょう?やわらかく聞こる気がしませんか?

Right? I think you’re getting the image.
ねっ?みなさんイメージ湧いてきましたかね。

これは、高すぎると思います

Alright, next sentence.
では次のセンテンスです。

Alright, let’s compare with and without I think.
I thinkがあるのとないので比較しましょう。

First without.
まずはなしの方で

これは、高すぎる
This is too expensive.

With I think.
I thinkがあると

これは、高すぎると思います
I think this is too expensive.

ひとりごと、、、

So I can not purchase it.
なので私は買えないです。

I’m sorry. I think it’s too expensive.
ごめんなさい。それは高すぎると思います。

あの人、かっこいいって思うかも

Alright, last sentence.
では最後のセンテンス。

Alright, without I think.
I thinkなしだと

あの人、かっこいい
He’s cute.

Or
あるいは

あの人、かっこいいって思うかも
I think he’s cute.

So here’s a tricky part.
ここ、ちょっと微妙なとこです。

Cute in Japanese it’s Kawaii
Cuteは日本語でかわいいですが

but in English when we talk about guys and say cute
英語では男性の話をしているときにcuteと言うと

it means like Kakkoii.
格好いいという感じになります。

this boy is like your type
この男の子ちょっとタイプかもと言う感じ。

So it’s not directly translated as like cute
キュートをそのまま訳すのはではなく、

but we still say like “Oh, he’s cute”.
あの人、かっこいいよね〜と言う意味で言っています。

And also by adding “I think”
またI thinkを加えることで

It’s like you’re not so sure yet
まだ確信はしていないけど

but you kind of think he is like handsome
彼がカッコいいって思っている

He is nice
彼いいなって

So you wanna express like “Oh, I think he is cute”
なので”彼かっこいいと思うよ”みたいに表現します。

I think this phrase will be really useful for like young girls.
このフレーズは若い女の子たちに役立ててもらえると思います。
